The comparative Advantage in the main exporting countries, flower and ornamental plant sector

The flowers and ornamental plants sector has been playing a remarkable role within the agricultural sector both in productivity and employment terms. The economic importance of ornamental plants has been increasing in many countries, and international demand has rapidly expanded. The Ornamental plants are products that can be produced in most areas of Iran and are even competitive in the global market and have the potential for exchange earnings of export, but it has a little share in export. The aim of the present research is to investigate the comparative advantage of countries which export flowers and ornamental plants. For this purpose, the revealed comparative advantage index, Symmetric revealed comparative advantage and new revealed comparative index have been used during the period of 2007–2015. The main ?ndings revealed that Ecuador, Colombia, Netherlands and Kenya have the highest exporting comparative advantage. Also, the values for the degree of trade specialization indicate that the pattern of trade specialization is gradually decreasing in the most exporting countries.
